A German support to Lebanon
A delegation from RC Bad Homburg, D 1820 (Germany), consisting of Erhard Krause, Gottfried Wohlmannstetter, and Yvonne Heimerdinger, who is a staff member responsible for the school project GG1861237 initiated in 2018 by Rotary Deutschland Gemeindienst, will be visiting Lebanon from May 31 to June 6, 2022.
Rotarian Erhard Krause played a crucial role in securing a $2.4 million grant for the Bassmeh & Zeitouneh School, which caters to Syrian refugees in Majdel Anjar. The delegation visited the school on June 1 to discuss project updates and the challenges facing Lebanon. They also participated in the school’s open days program on June 2 and 3.
On June 3, an incredible evening filled with music marked the launch of the History Award by The Orient-Institute, in collaboration between RC Beirut Cedars and RC Bad Homburg.
Furthermore, Rotarian Erhard Krause successfully raised a $400,000 grant to repair Geitawi Hospital after the devastating Beirut port blast. On June 4, 2022, the delegation visited the hospital, followed by a visit to Chabrouh, where our club honored his actions by planting a 10-meter tall Cedar tree.
During the club meeting on Wednesday, June 1, Rotarian Erhard Krause was given the opportunity to address the attending members and guests. He highlighted the longstanding relationship and collaboration between our two clubs, emphasizing the significance of the projects undertaken.
To conclude their visit, the delegation enjoyed sightseeing and visited Jbeil on their final day in Lebanon. We express our gratitude to Rotarian Mike Haroun for his dedication and efforts in making this trip an unforgettable experience.
Special thanks to Prof. Birgit Schaebler and the Past Presidents for organizing the visit’s program.
