On the 4th of August 2020, a massive blast destroyed Beirut. Hundreds of thousands of people lost their homes — amid the food inflation rate soared by 245% in June 2020 compared to October 2019, as a result of the compound effect of the financial crisis and the COVID-19 outbreak (Lebanon Central Administration of Statistics).
On our ongoing mission to fight hunger and support families in need, we (The Rotary Club of Beirut Cedars) joined forces with “SawaBlessed” NGO and Mrs. Aline Kamakian (Owner of Mayrig and Batchig Restaurants) to distribute hot meals to vulnerable families with no access to functioning kitchens.
Our team has been working round-the-clock for the past two weeks and was able to distribute so far 400 hot meals per day with more food to be dispatched in the coming weeks with a target of reaching 1,500 hot meals per day. The meals are being cooked in the Kitchen of Batchig restaurant and delivered through local NGOs (more than 100 partnered with us so far).
For transparency and credibility, “SawaBlessed” is monitoring the screening of families that is being done by the local NGOs. They will be constantly making sure that NGOs are following our selection guidelines.
Food waste is also a crucial matter for us. We are adding a QR code label on all the meals being prepared and tracking the delivery through a geo-location software we have been using. This way, we can ensure that all meals are reaching their destination.
Please DONATE to help us support families in need and lead them into a long term recovery plan.
