In a powerful expression of solidarity and sustainable action, Rotary Club of Beirut Cedars organized a Fruit Trees Planting Day in Tyre, an initiative led by Imane Jaffal and approved by the Club’s Board. The project quickly gained the support of Rotary Club de Beyrouth and Rotary Club of Beirut Cadmos, both of which were represented during the event’s ceremonial program, held in the presence of the Head of the Council of the Municipality of Tyre.

More than 300 fruit trees were distributed and planted, benefiting selected individuals and families whose agricultural lands and crops were devastated during the 2024 war in South Lebanon. Beyond restoring damaged fields, the initiative aimed to revive livelihoods, reinforce food security, and offer families a renewed sense of hope and continuity.

This activity falls within the Club’s Sustainable Community Development pillar—where environmental responsibility meets social resilience. Each tree planted symbolized not only recovery, but a long-term investment in dignity, self-reliance, and rootedness in the land.

Among the many moving moments of the day was the story of a local farmer who had lost his three-storey building, his livelihood, and a lifetime of work as a beekeeper, alongside similar losses suffered by his brother. Despite this devastation, he continues to cultivate his small plot of land and rebuild his modest home—an enduring testament to the strength and perseverance of the people of the South. Stories like his remind us why Rotary’s presence on the ground matters.

Through collective effort and interclub collaboration, this initiative reaffirmed Rotary’s role not only in responding to crises, but in planting the seeds of long-term recovery—one tree, one family, and one community at a time.
