The show must go on !
It is with great honor but also some serious apprehension that I will be receiving the gavel over from President Elie Melkane to run the Rotary Club Beirut Cedars for the RY 2016-2017
Not only because he fulfilled his mission with the utmost respect for the Rotary spirit but also because he made no compromise on the quality of the meetings as well as for the achievements of the club.
The continuity that I could observe in my club over the last six years was possible thanks to devoted and rigorous men and women who lead it and raised its name among the best Rotary Clubs in Lebanon and in District 2452.
Success in serving the community is more than rewarding but year after year, it raises the standard higher which makes the stakes even more challenging.
Great responsibility it is to carry a flame lit in 2010 to serve through areas of focus defined and driven by a 111-year-old international organization.
For that and along with a strongly motivated team, our club will tackle several avenues of service to the community under the main theme of
“Peace Through Education and Sports”
Several tentative projects are already being discussed and needs are being assessed with the club’s related committee, among them : Computer Literacy for the needy under a “Donate your Laptop/Notepad” program, NGOs and Students exchange program, Sound Governance and Transparency school program, Running Tracks access to young generations and Used Batteries collection for recycling.
Most of these projects are achievable with the support of all of the members, the Rotary International and our sponsors who will contribute to keep the reputation and the image of an active and vibrant Rotary Club Beirut Cedars.
This year we will also be celebrating through specific informative and awareness events the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation established “for the purpose of doing good in the world”. It has developed over $1 billion worth of Humanitarian and Educational programs as well as Polio Eradication worldwide implemented plan.
Yours in Rotary,
Ghassan Jean Hajjar
