When I became a Rotarian in 2007 and learned about the objectives and goals of Rotary International and the well-organized work dedicated members of Rotary clubs to achieve these goals, I realized that I have been a Rotarian at heart all my life.
It is true that our motto in Rotary is SERVICE ABOVE SELF, but once you enjoy the results of a service rendered to your community, country, or even to the world in general, I believe you have done yourself a bigger service than the one you did for others.
“No to Drugs in Lebanon” is the theme Rotary Club Beirut Cedars has adopted for the year 2011-2012. Prevention, protection, and rehabilitation will be the three major issues of our concern. We hope to tackle them by creating awareness among parents, schools, universities, youth clubs, NGOs, and hopefully governmental institutions. It is a difficult and long-term endeavor, but with creative thinking, team work, and a strong belief in the importance of the matter, and the disastrous effects drugs have on our children, we will at least open a door of hope for the youth of Lebanon.
