It’s time to work for Peace!
As I am writing these words, a series of intense feelings is going through my heart. On the one hand, I feel honored and privileged to continue the journey that was started by my two great and inspiring predecessors. Past President Philip Skaff and President Mona Kanaan successfully paved the way and set the strong foundation on which we can continue building our ambitious club vision.
On the other hand, I feel excited and eager to take up the new challenge of “Peace through the Lebanese New Generations” theme for the upcoming year. This theme was inspired by the Rotary International President’s theme “Peace through Service”. It was customized to Lebanon, by blending with it the “New Generations”, which is known as the fifth avenue of service in Rotary International.
I believe that for peace not to remain a slogan, which we only feel good talking about, it is time for all of us to work seriously towards that goal. Striving for achieving “Peace through the Lebanese New Generation” is a joint responsibility between all Rotary Clubs in Lebanon and the world, as well as their generous supporters, individuals, and corporations. That is why, at our club, we will be integrating the ideas, feedback, and suggestions of all our community’s constituents in order to achieve our goals and truly work together as one team.
John F. Kennedy said, “Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures.” I, therefore, seek your support this year every day, every week, every month to gradually get closer to peace. And, what better way to get us one step closer to peace than unleashing the unlimited potential of our new generations the right way?
